Sam Morrison

Sam Morrison is a Jazz Saxophone and flute player/composer/artist whose credits include being a key member of the Miles Davis Band. His performance with Miles at the Newport Jazz Festival & Avery Fisher Hall, were very favorably reviewed in the NY Times and the concert recording was released on the Jazz Masters CD label. “Bootleg” tapes of numerous concert and club performances of the band which included Sam, continue to be sold by many collectors on the internet.

Sam’s recording, “Dune” from that period on Inner City/East Wind records, won critical acclaim in Jazz circles as a ground breaking fusion album. His next album, “Natural Layers” on Chiaroscuro Records, utilized the talents of the extraordinary drummer/producer Narada Michael Walden and incorporated worldwide ’beats in a tapestry of funk, fusion and jazz.

Mr. Morrison has played with many legendary jazz greats like Gil Evans, Al Foster, Buster Williams, Woody Shaw, and Billy Hart. Sam also toured Europe playing at large jazz festivals in Vienna, Nice, Paris, and Stockholm with Pucco and the Latin Soul Brothers. Sam is currently a member of The Children on the Corner band, the electric Miles reunion band featuring bass legend Michael Henderson and Jazz Tabla pioneer Badal Roy. His recent concerts in the last few years include Miles from India in Budapest and a week at Ronnie Scott’s in London, Milan, and NYC with Michael Henderson’s Electric Miles. He is also featured on Thurman Barker’s latest release, “Rediscovered”.

Sam studied music at Columbia University in NYC where he performed and sat in regularly at jazz clubs like Slugs, The Village Vanguard and Fillmore East where he spent time with all the legendary rock bands. These influences can all be heard in his latest release, “Miles Away” on Brown Bag Records which features Mark Egan on bass , Joel Rosenblatt on drums, and Mike Wolf on keys. Mr. Morrison’s next release Dark Matter is an all sax and flute computer generated electronic music project that has just been released on the HDTT website for 24/96 downloads.

Sam currently resides privately in New York State near Newburg and is currently playing and endorsing a Sax Dakota Straight Soprano Sax: SDSS-1024 exclusively.
