Dexter Tolson
Born in Baltimore, Maryland Dexter Tolson plays alto, tenor and soprano Saxophone’s, with a sound of rhythmic emotions. He started playing music at a very young age; starting with the piano, he moved to guitar, drums, bass, and flute until settling on the alto sax in 1989. Dexter is a self-taught saxophone player influenced by Grover Washington Jr. and David Sanborn. An Army retiree, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and formed the band Dexter Tolson & Friends. Dexter is joined by Keyboard wizard Tony Carter, beat master Bobby Henderson on Drums, and Bass expressionist Roland Beard.
Anthony (Tony) Carter was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. He enjoyed playing music at a young age, excelling in both violin and trombone. Tony later migrated to the piano and studied music at Alabama State University, while earning a degree in accounting. He has recorded and performed with several artists, including Sarah Belladae, Tim Williams, and Dexter Tolson.
Bobby Henderson is a classically trained percussionist who taught himself to play the drum kit. He is a native of Atlanta Ga. Bobby has performed with a wide variety of artists in the Atlanta area for over 25 years. He prides himself on excellence.
Bassist Roland Beard was born in Detroit Michigan where he was exposed to many influences of music. He has been playing bass guitar for more than 30 years and plays 4, 5 and 6 string bass. Roland now resides in Stockbridge Georgia and very active on the music scene. He has been an active member of Dexter Tolson & Friends band for the past 6 years. Roland believes that music is the gift that keeps on giving!
Dexter Tolson & Friends, the Atlanta based band thrives playing a fusion of funk, compiles an arrangement of felicitous jazz, and gets down with Rhythm & Blues that wake maestros of yesterday from eternal slumber to shin dig with the living. Their music resonates with the likes of Grover Washington Jr, Gerald Albright, and Kirk Whalum. Dexter Tolson & Friends performs all over the Atlanta area and Southeast Region. You may have seen them perform at The Calabar & Grill in Stone Mountain, Footprints Café in Lawrenceville for Rene Miller Majic 107.5 and several other venues in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
